In December 2017 U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and announced the U.S. would move it’s embassy there. The announcement was controversial as both Israel and Palestine claim that Jerusalem is their capital. Foreign governments that recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel support the notion that Israel has sovereignty over the city. In 1949 Israel took control of the western half of the city and Jordan took control of the eastern half. In 2017 the current population of Jerusalem was 61% Jewish and 37% are Arab. Opponents argue that moving…

Jerusalem is the capital of PALESTINE and not Israel, please educate yourself before you argue against this. Palestinians welcomed Jewish people to live with them, then slowly they started backstabbing Palestinians and trying to have Palestine for themselves, you might say Israel have been a thing for 5,000 years NO IT WASN'T THE Religion has been here for 5,000 years but not the name of "Israel" not all Jewish people agree with them either about 50 percent of Jewish people are against Israel and the only reason the rest are saying free Israel is because they want Israel for… Read more
I agree. "Israel" is not a real state. People who live in "Israel" are colonizers supporting the active genocide of Palestine and its people. There are Palestinians OLDER than the "state" of "Israel."
Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. GIVE PALESTINIANS THEIR LAND BACK.

Let them fight their own war and don't get the US involved. If they do need assistance that bad, send a little bit of troops in. No more than 1500.
The US has long been entangled in Middle East affairs, often as a peacemaker. However, it's intriguing to note that deploying troops, even in small numbers, wouldn't necessarily solve the issue at hand, because it's not solely a military conflict but a deeply rooted political, cultural, and religious dispute. A vivid example is the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, which instead of stabilizing the region, led to the rise of ISIS and further instability.
Furthermore, the presence of foreign troops can often exacerbate tensions rather than reducing them. Drawing from the US history, the deployment of troops in Vietnam didn't lead to peace, but rather prolonged the conflict.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
The US has absolutely not been a peacemaker in the Middle East; quite the opposite.
@S0cialistJoeRepublican2yrs2Y
The biblical term "Israel" has indeed been around for thousands of years, referring to the ancient Kingdom of Israel established by King David around 1000 BC, with Jerusalem as its capital. The modern State of Israel, established in 1948, adopted the name to reflect this historical and religious legacy.
Your assertion that 50% of Jewish people are against Israel is not statistically supported. While there are certainly Jewish individuals and groups who oppose certain policies or actions of the Israeli government, the vast majority of Jews worldwide support Israel's right to exis… Read more

@lane07689 2yrs2Y
Israel had that land in the very beginning, but my main argument is that if we are superior then we should take the land.
The Jewish people know first hand what it is like to have others oppress them because their oppressors deemed themselves superior to Jewish people. Now, let me be clear, not all Jewish people are Zionists. However the Zionists that came to Palestine were trying to claim land that was already occupied, and even when given land that already wasn't there's, they became unhappy and took more.
Jerusalem is a holy city to all the Abrahamic religions, and some non-Abrahamic religions as well. Jerusalem should not be owned by any one nation or religion, as no religion is superior to another, and all who deem it holy should share it.
@CamelPhilGreen2yrs2Y
While it's important to note the historical significance of Israel's establishment, the principle of "might makes right" could lead to detrimental consequences in a global context. For instance, consider if larger nations decided to annex smaller countries based on resource needs or strategic advantages. Would that be justifiable? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
@9GD7QTD2yrs2Y
In the 1940's, the United Kingdom had gave Israel to the Jewish people, in turn creating a zionist government. The zionist government exiled hundreds of thousands of native Palestinians, murdered them, denied them rights, put them under military rule, and denied them citizenship while actively helping Jewish populations and settlers of the same area. The unfair treatment of Palestinians for over 70 years and complete disregard for basic human rights and values constitutes a reform and/or disassembly of Israel's zionist government, and dissolving all United States support to Israel.
@9GPXZCF2yrs2Y
Israel is a settler colonial state founded on the basis of ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people. The city of Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. Israel was given stolen land based off of biblical terms in regards to the Kingdom of Israel.
@ISIDEWITH7yrs7Y
No
@lane07689 2yrs2Y
Aside from Israel having historical land there, it will also establish a message for Abrahamic values. Our culture is superior and we have an obligation to spread it.
@9GSS2JGRepublican 2yrs2Y
It should not Isreal stole the land in the 1940's and they have been killing innocent Palestinians because of it.
The authors of Al Jazeera's article “The Nakba did not start or end in 1948” state, “By the first half of 1949, at least 750,000 Palestinians in total were forcibly expelled or fled outside of their homeland.”(The Nakba did not start or end in 1948) This forcible displacement of more than half a million people in less than a year, is inhumane and should not be allowed.
@9FL4Z4V2yrs2Y
Israel is America's greatest ally and continues to be a beacon of hope in the middle of a world filled with disaster. We share the same judeo-christian values, and have always been allies, we always will be, so recognizing Jerusalem as the capitol is only logical.
@ISIDEWITH7yrs7Y
No, Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine
Israel is an illegitimate apartheid state whose very existence is blasphemous.
@9HQ8KQG1yr1Y
the Palestinian people have lived in the area for thousands of years, and the Israeli state was created by imperialists to create a white ethnostate in the Middle East
@9FM55P82yrs2Y
The military invasion and occupation of Palestine has killed thousands if not tens of thousands of men, women, and children. Israel has invaded this nation, is killing its people, taken their land and freedoms. Israel should be condemned and persecuted internationally for its crimes against humanity.
@9GD7QTD2yrs2Y
Thousands of Palestinian citizens have been murdered, bombed, targetted, attacked, tricked, and treated unjust by the Israeli's since the 1940s. More apartheid and unjust laws passed against Palestinians in ~1967. 2009-2014 thousands of civilians murdered. More recently, using attacks by Hamas as excuses to blame and target Palestinian civilians (ie. bombing the south after explicitly noting they would be safe there, bombing hospitals, claiming they did it, then later blaming Palestinians and faking evidence. Bombing Churches, arresting innocent families.)
@ISIDEWITH7yrs7Y
Yes, and foreign governments should move their embassies there
@9N4ZXVPLibertarian12mos12MO
Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel for decades. Foreign embassies are typically located in a nation’s capital.
@9C4MSQH2yrs2Y
No. Quds is Palestine. It's Palestine from River to Sea.
@9FVKGHB2yrs2Y
It is unjust to declare the Holy City of Jerusalem as a Capital city, and should instead be an International Holy Site for Christians, Muslims and Jews. It should not be under any Government's oversight.
@9QX89523mos3MO
At the end of the day, the Israelis say that Jerusalem is their capital and they militarily and politically control it. Refusing to acknowledge the facts as they are on the ground really just makes you look foolish and petty.
@ISIDEWITH7yrs7Y
Yes, foreign governments should recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel
@9FM55P82yrs2Y
The apartheid military occupation of Palestine AKA Israel should not be recognized as a legitimate state.
@9GX4LLS1yr1Y
No. It should be treated as an International Holy Site and we should work towards a more unified and peaceful coexistence.
Considering the illegitimacy and lack of legality of the state of Israel it makes no sense to recognize "Jerusalem" as the capital of Israel.
The foreign governments that recognizes Israel’s Jerusalem are the same government run by Zionist and/or afraid of the Zionist run US government’s military.
@ISIDEWITH7yrs7Y
No, and foreign governments should not move their embassies there
@9GDMX4S2yrs2Y
No, it should be an internationally-administered city with equal access for both Israelis and Palestinians
@8J8ZJ5T5yrs5Y
It should be recognized as both the capital of Israel and Palestine, which would maintain the peace and equality between Israel and Palestine.
@8VHBC3L4yrs4Y
There will be no peace until the Zionist, apartheid state of Israel is destroyed, only then will the Christians, Muslims, and Jews be able to live together in peace.
No, and we should move our embassy back to Tel Aviv
@Nooneeveryone 12mos12MO
Jerusalem should be recognized as a sovereign, independent country and both Jerusalem and Palenstine should find a new capital in the interest of moving forward.

Isreal should be known as Palestine. No separation between Isreal and Palestine. It should be the land of Palestine as it was before 1948
@ArghhGeeDub 4mos4MO
No, the land will never see peace until it is irradiated and human populations cannot physically be there. The governments around the land need to share jurisdiction of the area and that needs to be mediated by a much stronger outside power.
No, because that would start even more problems with the religious community. Also, Israel already has Tel Aviv. the UN Security ruled that Israel cannot have Jerusalem as the capital of Israel for the exact reason I stated.
@9GQFBJM2yrs2Y
Jerusalem should be recognized with as a city shared between Israel and Palestine, with neither government having total control or claim over the city
