Hail-by-smartphone car services Uber and Lyft have rapidly expanded in cities across the world over the past year. Users "hail" cars through smartphone apps which also track the car's location and process payments. Proponents argue that they provide better customer service and cheaper rates than traditional taxis and car services. Opponents argue that since they are not subject to the same licensing procedures as taxis they do not necessarily meet the same safety requirements. See recent ridesharing news

These car services should be allowed to operate with some of the same regulations. All drivers need to be screened and tested before licenses are issued. 4 years ago from a Green in Walnut Creek, CA
