In October 2016, allied forces joined with the Iraqi military to launch an offensive against ISIS forces in the Iraqi city of Mosul. After ISIS took control of the city in 2014 allied forces and the Iraqi military have launched three separate offensives aimed at recapturing the city. The first two offensives, the Anbar Campaign and the Mosul offensive were unsuccessful in their attempts to purge ISIS forces from the city.
