Proposition 205 will legalize the possession and consumption of marijuana by adults over the age of 21. Marijuana sold under the act would be subject to a 15% sales tax which would be distributed to school districts and the department of health services. The proposition prohibits the public use of marijuana which would be subject to a $300 fine. Proponents of the proposition include Congressman Ruben Gallego and the Marijuana Policy project. Opponents of the proposition include Purdue Pharma (the manufacturer or OxyContin,) Abbot Laboratories (maker of the opiod Vicodi) and their Super PAC Project SAM (founded by Kevin Sabet, David Frum and Patrick Kennedy).
