That’s an excuse to track normal citizens because if you wanted to track them don’t use “basic data collection” just track the one guy

You've hit the nail on the head! It's like using a bulldozer to plant a flower. Does anyone else perceive an imbalance here? And how would you propose we balance the need for security with respect for privacy?

 @9GLFTKN from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

That this would violate peoples rights because they would be looking into people who have northing to do with it.

Security and hypothetically saving lives will always be the argument used to infringe on individual liberties. Ex: the patriot act, which was designed solely to increase governmental surveillance of citizens and realistically has done little to no good for America. I may be mistaken, but for the countless years before increased surveillance of citizens, this country was not some nightmare where endless terrorist attacks occurred and there was lawless chaos everywhere. We have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe and free

Privacy is a basic human right, nobody wants to have their private conversations and activities seen and monitored.

Data collection can be misused and it's a right to be able to keep data to yourself unless suspected.

 @9GZ8MPH from Pennsylvania disagreed…5mos5MO

only suspected people should be under that type of watch because regular people have done nothing wrong and do not need any surveillance

 @9GQL5PB from Pennsylvania agreed…6mos6MO

Basic data collection will allow the NSA to make sure that whoever is suspected of being a terrorist is not and will keep our country safe.

 @9GN4RNH from Wisconsin disagreed…6mos6MO

Too much data is being harvested already. The C.I.A. and F.B.I. should be the agencies that ferrit out suspected terrorists by more traditional means of intelligence gathering.

 @9FWC5MH from Florida disagreed…7mos7MO

I agree basic data collection is necessary to track suspected terrorists AND SHOULD REQUIRE A WARRANT so they can track SUSPECTED TEERORISTS and not every american.

 @9FN78FQ from Texas disagreed…7mos7MO

Fair that basic data is necessary, but that basic data is also violating the innocent. Who decides what is basic, and how long before something basic can go deep. Even basic information can become circumstantial depending on perspective. This increases the chances of wrongful convictions.

 @9FF7652Libertarian from Illinois disagreed…7mos7MO

NSA has shown they are incapable of harvesting data without the need to collect from ordinary US citizens data.

 @9GH2GCNLibertarian from Nevada disagreed…6mos6MO

It is against the constitution to take our personal data without our consent and you know damn well you aren't using it to catch terrorists.

 @9FNYMPZSocialist from Arizona disagreed…7mos7MO

The basic data collection infringes on the innate right of privacy every human deserves, the right to jerk off in the bathroom should not be the concern of the NSA.

What's to stop officials from falsely labeling political opponents as terrorists?
