Yes

Letting lawmakers draw their own districts even temporarily invites gerrymandering, protects incumbents, and undermines fair representation. Independent commissions exist to keep elections competitive and reflect voters not politicians.

My best counter argument for people that want to vote no on prop 50 in California is that we deserve equal representation.

No

Letting lawmakers redraw their own districts is like letting athletes referee their own games—of course they’ll tilt the field their way. California created an independent commission to keep maps fair and representative because politicians, left or right, have a long history of gerrymandering for personal gain. If the goal is democracy, handing the pen back to lawmakers is a step backward, not forward.

Fighting fire with fire is how the world goes up in flames. but what is the other option? regretfully yes

 @B87SPQ8 from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes but only in retaliation to gerrymandering in other states like Texas, gerrymandering needs to be controlled by Congress with an equal decision on the matter from each party.

Yes, but only as a response to the redrawing of Texas congressional districts (Congressional districts shouldn't exist)

No, but California should implement permanent electoral reforms like ranked choice voting, proportional representation, and recognition of political parties that operate with stronger internal discipline (eg. party-only primaries, party ability to censure and expel members as part of electoral whipping.)

 @B84NHPFDemocrat from California  answered…7mos7MO

yes, only if they will change it back when all of the president and all replacements die or are removed from power.

In this case, I would vote yes. If it prevents our federal government from becoming an autocracy and staying a Republic and prop 50 is temporary...yes.

 @B85T3MWDemocrat from California  answered…6mos6MO

Yes, with STRONG requirement to draw equitable lines in the next census, and a very strong push to make this requirement throughout the country to prevent any politician or a group from using gerrymandering to influence the results of any election

 @B85N89K from California  answered…7mos7MO

No, I think that all redistricting/gerrymandering should be made illegal and that there should be far stricter regulations on the specific circumstances that warrant a redistricting.

 @B85JYH2 from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, if it's for extreme cases such as Trump's borderline authoritarianism

 @B83JMWF from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, Texas did it, democracy needs to be protected, so we should stoop to the same level.

 @B83J3L7Democrat from California  answered…7mos7MO

It shouldn't have gone to this point, however; it is increasingly apparent that political gerrymandering is both the problem and the solution.

 @B836CNH from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes but if other states back down California reverts to previous policy

 @B8364Y8 from California  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but if other states back down changing their seats, then California should oo

until other states do the same so that the balance of power does not shift in the congress

 @B7ZSZYNNo Labels from California  answered…7mos7MO

yes, allow it for a time-bound elections without being able to expand it beyond it

 @B7Z6V5P from California  answered…7mos7MO

I agree that California should do it as a rebuttal towards the Republican states that are trying to redisctrict, but it is heavily unconstitutional and I would not support it, had the Republicans not started it.

 @B82JJFB from California  answered…7mos7MO

depends if the person is using another person to get more votes for example elon
