Citizens should be allowed to secure their money in self-hosted digital wallets that the government can NOT monitor.

 @8TB798W  from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, citizens should be allowed to secure their money in self-hosted digital wallets but the government should not be able to monitor or control it without a warrant.

No, the people and the church should rule everything. The church will be ultra compassionate and ultra left wing, while the people make sure what is best for them happens.

Informed Self Hosted Digital Wallets

Relying on the church to be ultra-compassionate and left-wing while also assuming that the people will always make what's best for them happen overlooks a critical issue: power dynamics. Take, for instance, the medieval era when the church held significant power. Despite intentions of compassion, corruption was rampant, and the people's needs were often sidelined. If absolute power corrupts absolutely, wouldn't it be risky to entrust both religious and secular control to a single entity? How would you ensure that the people's voice remains heard without checks and balances?

 @9NJY9NF from California  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but only if the government has backdoor access in order to freeze the funds of criminals (with such action requiring a warrant).

 @KnowledgeMothLibertarian from Vermont  disagreed…9mos9MO

Informed Self Hosted Digital Wallets

Backdoor access for the government sounds good in theory, but it opens the door to abuse and overreach. Look at the Snowden revelations; government agencies have been known to overstep boundaries when given a little too much power. Would you really trust any government to wield such access responsibly and without error?

 @9C68D5W from North Carolina  commented…9mos9MO

Now, I am not an expert on cryptocurrencies, but isn't the nature of a blockchain that all transactions are stored onto it. So you can just check the chains to determine all the transactions performed by those using it. So isn't this more a question of if the government should be allowed to know which user data belongs to which person? Please correct me if I've gotten something wrong here

 @79RJDNT from New York  commented…9mos9MO

Some politicians, like Brad Sherman, are arguing that citizens should not be allowed to secure their money in ways that prevent the government from confiscating it.

 @9PQW8D5Republicanfrom Texas  answered…12mos12MO

Yeah but that the government shouldn't inspect it, unless a fraud or any illegal or suspecting activities.

 @9SNDG4NWrite-In from South Carolina  answered…10mos10MO

All transactions between parties should be taxed to assure the value of the currency annd the legality of the transaction.

 @JealousShads from Ohio  disagreed…9mos9MO

Taxing every transaction could stifle small peer-to-peer exchanges, like lending a friend money for lunch or selling a used item online. Imagine charging tax on every little favor between friends! Instead, what if we focused on larger transactions to ensure fairness and efficiency?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…9mos9MO

In the fight against illegal activities, where should we draw the line between surveillance and privacy?

 @9TPFTVT from Washington  answered…9mos9MO

survivance in medium public settings should be required. we should draw the line for housing, no security inside housing. otherwise, according to the condition of the country, there should be security everywhere else.

 @9TPFMJP from Georgia  answered…9mos9MO

Purpose and Necessity: Surveillance should be justified by clear, specific goals related to preventing or addressing illegal activities, such as money laundering or terrorist financing. It should not be overly broad or intrusive beyond what is necessary to achieve these goals.

 @B5GFYY6 from California  answered…1mo1MO

People should be able to have digital wallets but the government should not be able to monitor them.

 @B5FVHHXNo Labels from Indiana  answered…1mo1MO

I simply am unsure how to feel about this issue I believe if the government were to monitor and not control the transactions that can be okay to a certain extent, I believe the monitoring should be very minor and not in privacy such as analyzing transactions too closely to where it disturbs a citizens privacy. If there is a big flag raised when monitoring the transactions that is when analyzing transactions can be okay...I also feel I am not educated enough to know how to feel about this subject.

 @B5BWTLSfrom Guam  answered…1mo1MO

 @B2PMTB4 from Florida  answered…5mos5MO

People should be allowed to secure their money in digital wallets, but without govt monitoring. Money Launderers will find a way to avoid taxes no matter the level of govt "monitoring". Law abiding citizens need a digital way to store money but without govt interference. Otherwise they will just keep cash or gold in a mattress which is an inconvenient form.

 @B2KSJBF from Maryland  answered…5mos5MO

Yes, but if the wallet cannot be regulated, then the wallet is not privy to the same protections as bank accounts.

 @B2KKVBK from Pennsylvania  answered…5mos5MO

Deregulation of money through cryptocurrency and other volatile means is inherently unstable and should not be allowed. A country has a standardized currency for a reason, and if it cannot control the value of it to keep inflation in check, then it cannot protect the economic safety of its people.

Yes, allow a digital wallet but make the government monitoring a yes or no option for the account holder.

 @9ZC3ZHCIndependent from North Carolina  answered…7mos7MO

I think they should be allowed to keep this currency as digital assets - non-real, until they cash it out for something more. Just like how items may be bought in video games, to sell it back for a profit should incur something akin to a normal transaction. Treat it like beanie babies.
