Pete Buttigieg disparages Americans who don't want to be forced into electric vehicles:
"I feel like it's the early 2000s and I'm talking to some people who think that we can just have landline phones forever."
I'm conservative and love EVs. Faster, less maintenance, cleaner air and some are the most American built vehicles (Tesla). I have a full "tank" every morning. Dont have to worry about oil changes, stolen catalytic converters..and I can blow the doors off anything.
The government controls the power grid. Electric cars require power. As things unfold now in unprecedented ways, it's not inconceivable that the government could cut the grid, and stop our movement. I'm sticking with gas for now.

Yes, well not all of your peasants can afford a $15K battery every 5 years.
So there's that. And also, most of us live in beautiful areas of spacious land, parks, and green meadows with nary a charging station in sight. Which you would know nothing about. (PS let's keep it that way).
I'm not on board with electric. However, you're lying when it comes to needing a battery every 5 years. Should last conservatively closer to 20 years
@JudicialLionDemocrat4wks4W
Electric car batteries are warrantied for 100k miles. Sorry but facts.
@9L88VD3 4wks4W
I drive that in 2 years. Granted regular batteries are far from 100% reliable, but the last one I needed to replace was almost 10 years ago and was $200. Sorry but that makes the choice easy for me.
There's also the issue of charging. I frequently am driving for most of the day to monitor job sites. I don't have time to sit around and wait for the vehicle to charge. Maybe if hybrid battery prices came down I could get on board with that, as long as I still have the option for gasoline when I need it. As long as a hybrid truck can do everything I need it to do.

I lived most of my life in Philly and my block only had parking on the other side of the street. How could I have charged an electric vehicle? There are millions of people like me.
There hundreds of cities in Europe that installed on street charging.
@TalentedRelishForward4wks4W
Been all over the world and I’m in Europe multiple times a year. I rarely see these. Do you think installing the millions of chargers necessary is even a remotely plausible solution? The cost would be in the trillions of dollars. Have you seen municipal budgets?
Cell phone adoption is actually a good example; people naturally gravitated toward them and away from land lines. I doubt mayor Pete was completely cellular in 2000 either. The tech improved, as did reliability. EV’s aren’t there yet. They’re too expensive, the cold blast earlier this year caused a lot of problems. Not everyone has a charging station at home or nearby. People aren’t ready, for the most part, to go all electric. Buttigieg is being patronizing at best.
Classic liberal glib response to socialist market intervention that no one wants.
The way he said it too is a tacit admission this rule was always meant to force gas-powered cars out of the market in favor of EVs, contrary to the media-Dem spin it’s not a ban.
@AdoringCheeseRepublican4wks4W
Actually Pete it's because Electric cars suck and pollute more than regular cars. But don't let that get in the way of your gaslight.
