Colleges and universities ought to challenge students' thinking and present them with different positions than their own, but they must do so in a respectful manner. There should be qualified mental health experts who can help students through difficult situations wherein "trigger warnings" and "safe spaces" may be necessary. If a difficult topic is to be discussed in a planned lecture, the professor should inform his or her class beforehand if possible.
