I guarantee you'll be begging for the police back in like 2 days. You base your opinion on what the media tells you. Do your research.

 @9H2P7GD from North Carolina agreed…5mos5MO

If we defund the police the public crime rates would sky rocket and we wouldn't have defense against it.

 @9H57GVD from Nevada commented…5mos5MO

1.) This is entirely hypothetical and not based on repeatable data
2.) Police are reactive to crime, not preventative.
3.) Community defense is a thing

 @9H38RDN from Nebraska agreed…5mos5MO

hell yes we need the police to keep everyone safe, if we dont then people will just break into things and places and no one can do anyhting about it.

 @9GXNV85Republican from Missouri agreed…5mos5MO

Yes I do. Police training could be improved, but defunding them would provoke the exact opposite effect. Police are a keystone in holding a modern society together

 @9GXJNMKWomen’s Equality from Georgia agreed…5mos5MO

I agree, I think that certain areas should be funded more. Like more crime-populated areas. I don't think I'd base most of my opinion on the media though. I like to look at both sides.

 @9GFBB8K from North Carolina disagreed…6mos6MO

Police keep us safe, you cannot argue that police brutality has and continues to be a big issue in several countries but the fact of the matter is that most likely without them at all, all hell would break loose.

 @9GFNHQ2Independent from California agreed…6mos6MO

There are not as many police brutality incidents as people may think there are. The statistics are only being partially shown.

 @9GSFV5VRepublican  from Minnesota disagreed…6mos6MO

Places that have reduced spending on police officers open themselves up to more crime and it has been proven by multiple studies.

 @9GSGN5C from North Carolina agreed…6mos6MO

I agree, however there have been reckless acts of violence committed in the past bu police officers, so therefore police funding should stay up but also work harder to hire nicer, hardworking, empathetic officers.

 @9FG8N8X  from Arkansas disagreed…7mos7MO

The police are a strong deterrent for local crime, and the quality of the police department combined with the nature of local people are a large factor in crime.

 @9GJBMPG  from Virginia disagreed…6mos6MO

we need police to keep citizens safe, and it is better than community organizations because it is organized and there is proper training. racism also isnt a big problem with policing and it is over blown on tv. George Floyd even had a lethal dose of fentanal inside of him and was about to die of an overdose.

 @9GJD49T from Texas agreed…6mos6MO

The police should be defunded because they already get enough money and they don't need that much stuff they need equipment which they need but the extra stuff they do not need they do not need to upgrade there guns to bigger guns

 @9GTRFJSRepublican from Guam disagreed…6mos6MO

This is incorrect. Police officers need all the equipment they can get in order to deal with new threats all the time. Many police stations are actually under-funded as well.

Also, they aren't "upgrading their guns to bigger guns." The biggest guns they typically need are rifles or non-lethal weapons like a beanbag gun.

 @9GJCWGN from Illinois agreed…6mos6MO

The George Floyd situation wasn't just on the cops though, as he was under substance and could've been capable of anything. I'm afraid I have to disagree with how they handled it with his knee to Georges's neck. But, taking this situation and then basing our whole police system off it is kind of ridiculous. There are good cops and bad cops but whenever a bad cop is found to be corrupted they do face the punishments as any other would. This shows you how they are taking precautions towards the corruptness through the government as you will obviously have the good and bad sides of things.

 @9GJD9XB from New Jersey agreed…6mos6MO

I feel like the "Defund the police" was a very stupid move and hurt our country, crime skyrocket and even in some city's, the crime rate is still high.

 @9GLJNRF from Tennessee disagreed…6mos6MO

How are you going to defend yourself because the people who vote for this also want the 2nd amendment to be abolished? Who do they think is going to save them if I rob them at knife or gunpoint if they don't have access to police or weapons?

 @9GLKHBH  from Tennessee agreed…6mos6MO

This statement is true, everyone has the right to be safe and defunding the police is a proven terrible idea.

 @9GLK8G5 from Indiana agreed…6mos6MO

NO, the police should not be defunded, they are the ones who protects the Average U.S. citizen and it is bad enough that 70% full for all types of departments across the nation.

 @9G3Q3TSRepublican  from Oklahoma disagreed…7mos7MO

This would lead to total chaos in larger cities because twisted individuals would take advantage and crime would run rampant.

 @9G3QZN2 from Georgia agreed…7mos7MO

I agree. If there was no consequence for a criminals actions why would they not steal, murder, and commit other crimes.

 @9HQHVZR  from Wisconsin disagreed…4mos4MO

The police serve to keep us safe, and while their are undeniably some examples of police exerting excessive force to enforce laws, the vast majority of officers are good people who want to protect their community. By abolishing the police we would live in a state with no guaranteed protection for its citizens. While it is tempting to hope that people would be willing to set aside their differences and set aside violence, the reality is that there would be mass crime with no figures of authority available to enforce the law. The absence of police would also create a vacuum of power that would attract groups that would perform biased and unfair vigilante justice that would cause more harm than good.

 @9HQJ3DS  from Virginia agreed…4mos4MO

Exactly! The police are too defended already, which is why some states allow shoplifting, cops don't get proper response training and they are always late. The laws job is to protect our rights not to take them away and funding the police as of now can only add to the protection of our rights. By removing them we accept anarchy.

 @9HQBQJD  from California disagreed…4mos4MO

Without the police, we'd live in a place without order. Yes, we have laws, but the point of the police is to enforce those laws.

 @9HQD33Y from Massachusetts agreed…4mos4MO

Police are essential and should be given all of the support required, and should be supported against criminals in all situations

 @9HQCSGQ from Florida agreed…4mos4MO

Respect for authority is a hallmark of civilized societies. When consequences of improper behavior are not inconvenient or uncomfortable the person has no reason to change. Fear is a great motivator and few people fear consequences in recent society. Rules have value and enforcing rules fairly/uniformly keeps people safe, secure, and content.

 @9HPSYDZ from Virgin Islands disagreed…4mos4MO

If there is no powerful body that will back the community against criminals, find kidnapped victims, guide through real time crises,etc everything will be in shambles. Police exists to keep order and hold accountable the individual that violate that order. Some argue the community itself can protect eachother but that's not enough nor efficient. Instead of defunding the police focus on making sure the police officer who committed the crime is held accountable.

 @9HPXC4R from Michigan agreed…4mos4MO

Yes, I agree. No one will deny that there are some bad police officers however the police are a required necessity for a person's life. We should focus our interest in weeding out the bad police officers and appointing new ones. Training for cops could also be made more difficult and pay raises should be an order for those serving who do well.

 @9GF3RP3 from Pennsylvania disagreed…6mos6MO

You can't abolish the police department because then crime rates would skyrocket and the country would get worse.

 @9GBC94G from California disagreed…6mos6MO

No, they are a necessity to the community and the country to ensure safety, tranquility, and peace. That is the main job of the police.

 @9FM6WYF from Virginia disagreed…7mos7MO

Social programs aren't going to stop criminals from committing crimes. Areas with a strong police presence are always safer than those without them.

 @9FDC867 from Texas disagreed…7mos7MO

I think police with a questionable background, and history of complaints should absolutely be held accountable on all accounts. however, abolishing police is probably the dumbest idea weve ever had as a species, anarchy would ensue, general peace officers and all form of law enforcement are all necessary for society to function.

 @9GK9KQ5Libertarian from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

Police officers are crucial to order especially in the inner cities. We need them to serve and protect or else. we won't have any identity to fight crime.

 @9FLXJLQ from Arizona disagreed…7mos7MO

Police are here to help protect the citizens from any danger that occurs as they put their life on the line to help protect and serve their country/state.

 @9GRSFND from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Police are trained professionals and are necessary to keep peace in communities. Defunding the police is one of the most reckless things a community can do. Look at the exponential spike in crime rates in Chicago for example.

 @9FF99Q4 from Utah disagreed…7mos7MO

You should not defund the police, they need to be funded enough to protect our communities or the crime levels will rise and less people will be safe.

 @9G33XB7 from Utah disagreed…7mos7MO

If a man with a gun comes to your home to hurt you, who are you gonna call for help? Someone with a knife? Untrained? No, you will want the police then and with many other instances.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas disagreed…7mos7MO

If someone with a gun comes into my home to hurt me...then I'm dead. What good are the police going to do for me? No one wants the police at their house, we want people to stop getting guns and to stop doing crimes, and newsflash: police do not prevent that.

 @HareAlexandraPatriot from New York disagreed…7mos7MO

Consider the case in New York City in the 1990s. The city was facing a crime epidemic until new policing strategies were implemented, including a greater police presence in high crime areas. This led to a significant drop in crime rates. If the police can't prevent all crime, how can we effectively reduce it and ensure public safety? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas commented…7mos7MO

The most significant root cause of crime is poverty, which we solve not through further incarceration, but by improving the material conditions of the public as a whole. Guaranteeing quality food, shelter, healthcare, education, transportation, and all the other basic human needs for a fulfilling and healthy life in the modern world would do infinitely more to prevent crime than any amount of violent police presence can.

 @9GR33F4 from Indiana disagreed…6mos6MO

Without the police America would break into chaos and in places where they have abolished the police the crime rates grew and they needed to bring the police back.

 @9GSXTFN from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Less police will only make them more trigger happy and feel unsafe. More officers would give more time for training on deescalation training and community policing.

 @9GHLBFGCA Common Sense from Iowa disagreed…6mos6MO

No do not Abolish the police. Yes there is some corrupt cops but cops are there to help us and they do. Cops are payed to keep us safe and they are payed to do the right thing.

 @9FNN6V6Republican from Illinois disagreed…7mos7MO

The police are a very valuable thing in the United States and should always be a thing to protect the citizens of our country

 @9GLT6M9 from Oregon disagreed…6mos6MO

The police are in place to protect the public, and the cops who are involved in legitimate cases of an issue should be put on trial. There are more good cops than bad cops, and abolishing the police would leave everyone unprotected in case of an emergency.

 @9FMZBXKRepublican from Colorado disagreed…7mos7MO

Without a strong police force, violent crime would become more apparent and dangerous to the general public. while yes there are often a few bad cops who do disgusting things, we need the police force.

 @9FLPQCT from Georgia disagreed…7mos7MO

I think that anyone who says that we should defund the police need to open their minds and realize what would happen if we did something like that, it would cause mass casualties and chaos.

 @9GNNZWC from California disagreed…6mos6MO

Defunding the police is stupid, and without the police, we will have no one to protect us. If anything police should earn more.

 @9GKJ98B from Ohio disagreed…6mos6MO

The police do a lot to keep our country safe and people should not be saying to defund the police because of a couple corrupt officers.

 @9GWZBKZ from Maine disagreed…5mos5MO

Whether you like it or not, the Police are the ones that are keeping the general public out of danger every day from dangerous criminals.
