Presidential Election Science Issues Space Exploration Stances

Should the United States increase our space exploration efforts and budget?

Stances...

User submitted stances on Space Exploration

after we get out of the Obama economic mess.

keep doing some explorations

We should fund it for alternative energy resources here on earth

Give incentives and subsidies to the private sector to encourage R&D and job growth.

Keep it moderate

Yes, but only after we have eliminated our national debt.

No idea

we need to balance the budget and cut spending first, if there is excess funding for such research, then yes we may apply that extra currency into expanding out knowledge.

Yes, but only in times of Economic Surplus

No, space should be left alone for now.

I think NASA should conserve their money wisely instead of wasting it.

No matter to me, I live in Europe.

Only as a necessity.

MOON BASE!!!

This is the only issue I think everyone can agree is beneficial to ALL of mankind, not just America. I think that if we spent the most money on NASA, this world would be a much better place

Double the space exploration budget to 1 penny on the dollar by reducing budget by a small percentage to all other aspects. This way, no one suffers overmuch, and space exploration is still drastically expanded.

yes, but with a focus on increasing private sector involvement

Only if money is available. Not during times of recession.

Offer incentives for the private sector to explore space

Space exploration spending is one of the few things that should be globalized.

We have so many needs in other areas, I don't think this can be a priority right now.

Yes, as long as it doesn't contribute to the national debt.

We should expand space operations which are devoted to analyzing and protecting the Earth (such as satellites observing the global climate, or protecting us from rogue meteors).

It is a poor state of affairs when the most influential nation on Earth spends less than 0.5% of its federal budget on the other 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the universe.

Minimum funding to space exploration, but decrease it

We should increase funding for NOAA.

Not increase, but keep it around.

yes it's a matter of national security.

Wait until we solve the problems in our country before we start sending them into space.

Not during the current economic situation.

We should eliminate efforts to colonize other planets and the moon

don't know i have no details

I think it is important to continue space exploration and research but I do not think now is a good time to increase the budget.

Exploring and increasing our understanding of space and the cosmos is of the utmost importance to the human race if we are to continue to evolve and even just exist.

No, it should not INCREASE spending on space exploration, but I believe that it should still receive some funding.

not that simple

Maybe

Explore the oceans

We should but not at this moment as an increase in funding could go to other sectors.

If we can reduce our spending, space is one of the few places that is out of the reach of our private sector and should be explored, in a limited fashion by the federal government.

Only once we have the funds to do it, not before.

Fix our problems first, before we go fuck another planet.

The rent is too damn high!

Yes, it creates more jobs.

No, the government is inefficient and squanders resources that the free market could allocate more efficiently.

Yes, but strictly only for exploration, not militarisation.

Yes if it can benefit us

This should be up to physicists to decide, not congress or the president. Increase science funding in general.

merge NASA and DOD

The only way we're going to make any headway in space exploration is if the aliens come to us. We just don't have the money or the technology to get any further

Yes, but incentivize the private sector to develop space technology simultaneously and cooperatively.

yes, as it pertains to defense

Boobies

Space exploration is important; however, turning over space to corporate greed is absolutely not attractive.

Probably not, but it would depend on the goals.

We should not decrease funding.

Yes but only for technological uses leave exploration to the private sector

no we should discover more about our own planet before we go back to space exploration... yet still keeping an eye in sky thru telescopes

I don't feel one way or another

No increase. Maintain presence.

AS a military defense.

Yes, but they government should also open space up to the private sector within reason. Space has special conditions that affect the entire world. In this one case it should be regulated much like an airport.

I feel space exploration is important, but should only be allowed so much funding from the government and the rest should be paid for by private donors.

The result of our investments resulted not only in space exploration but in thousands of new technological development and products that helped our economy to grow and employ many people learning new skills and technniques. It also drove the demand for theoreticians, engineers, and technicians in many fields of development nd support. The impact on our medical knowledge was equally extensive. (Let's start by cleaning up the mess we've left circling our globe.)

Not right now, after the recession, the benefits should be reweighed and the program funded accordingly

We understand enough about space closer to effectively negotiate it for military purposes. The US military should be executing missions in space to check hostile countries (China, Russia), before they have the capacity to execute missions against the United States.

Leave it to the Russians they know better.

Shift funding to earth/ocean based research

The US should still put money into a Space program, but one focused less on manned space travel, and more on exploration and research of areas that could have a foreseeable, positive affect on the human population. However, the private sector should be encouraged to fund space travel as well. Additionally, the space exploration budget should take a much lower priority during times of economic hardship.

Not enough info to form an opinion

Yes, and defense spending should be cut proportionally to fund space exploration as well as future science education.

Depending on what the purpose is. Just spending time in space is not a valid purpose.

Only if there is a surplus.

Again "research" is subjected to ideology...

NASA should be in position to keep up with the rapidly growing Chinese space program and to stop outsourcing our space program to the Russians for man exploration to the space station, while at the same time incentivize the private sector

Yes, we should direct funds away from national defense for space exploration.

No but it should be maintained it has help us develop a lot of technology advances

Eventually, but not at the present time, as our debt is too great.

Yes, but only for unmanned space missions.

Whether we increase the budget for the space exploration, the findings of the explorations will still be repressed due to the results/findings (AKA extra terrestrial life, UFO's, etc.)There is no point to increase the funding if the results are null.

Leave budget as is but continue to explore.

We need a consortium of thinkers to imProve our future! We don 't get anywhere or ahead without discovery have bot an agency and private sector exploring and discovering!

Yes, but using budget for new exploration efforts instead of repeating what we've already accomplished.

Only after we have paid the national debt.

Not this this we should be usin space exploration to find a means to battle global warming

For egress, yes.

Yes if it helps with our future survival and helps the world overall.

No, keep it the same.

yes we should fund space exploration for military and science benefit

I would decrease the defense budget to the point where we just need to protect our own borders, then I would put that money to space exploration and other like things.

Not only the USA, the space exploration shall be shared by all the countries in the world that can afford it. By Europe, China, Japan, Russia, etc.

The government should pay when the economy is good, but the private sector should be granted equal access regardless of whether the economy is good or bad.

I think learning more about space is great and if we can afford to fund it then great. but there are sooooooo many bigger issues that need to be addressed like new forms of energy, pollution, etc.. that should be a higher priority.

No, we should provide incentives to the private sector. We know less about our oceans then space, yet water is going to become a very precious resource as we pollute our water supply. We need to find ways of converting salt water into drinking water by providing incentives to the private sector.

Exploration and politics are in two different realms. Leave science and popularity contests separate.

no, leave funding and research to the private sector

I believe it is important to continue space exploration but not at the cost of increased defecits.

I believe it is important to our nation, however not at the cost of increased deficits.

yes but also add incentives for private sector te involved

Yes, during a recession
