Do you support the Patriot act?

Stances...

User submitted stances on Patriot Act

I don't follow this subject.

Don't care

Somewhat

Abolish the Patriot act and make clear legal notes on how no law should encroach upon any part of the constitution without being an amendment, and as such, the Patriot act, FISA, NDAA 2012, and numerous other laws should be reformed or abolished as well.

Only if it is used stickily as a tool for terrorism, and excludes other uses

No and Hell No!

It may have been necessary initially, and may be necessary during extenuating circumstances, but is no longer necessary and should be repealed.

I support all constitutional efforts to protect this country.

...

Don't know really enough about what it entails.

banana sandwiches

Some good and some bad contained in this act.

I honestly don't know

Not in the slightest. This law and several others that have come in its wake is the greatest threat to freedom that has every occurred in the history of our nation. I would rather accept the potential of thousands of American deaths due to terrorist action then sacrifice this level of freedom. People forget that we must be willing to die for our freedom. That includes at the hands of our enemies because we refuse to give these freedoms up just to stop them. The 2nd amendment was put there to remind us that we should not fully trust our government.

Yes, but within limits. Again, discrimination seems to play a major role here, creating this debate. Government inclusion is still necessary to ensure proper enforcement (again, sadly).

I don't know what it is

unsure

God Bless America!

We need the Freedom of Privacy

Yes, when they actually work to protect that nation. Unlike how they are working now.

FUCK NO.

Have a discussion with the People of the USA, the OWS, 99%, Unions, The workers, and the layed off the disabled, and yes the Welfare receipents to see where they stand. Then lets have a discussion Never on FOX but a Free TV Station to all People. No censorship whatsoever.

no, and abolish all government

penis

idc

Not familiar

Fuck no!

yes, under strict guidelines and enforced to ensure proper procedure is followed throughout.

The act is way too complex to answer sweepingly with any answer. parts: yes, parts: no

The complete act is overreaching and should be allowed to lapse. Each item in the act should then be submitted for passage individually.

The potential for abuse is great and should be managed and limited to what is considered terrorist activities.

No, but some of the things it was meant to support and prevent make sense. if we were guaranteed a time limit or limit of power, it could be more acceptable

100% unconstitutional. Jail all who voted for it.

teach all americans English and export all foreign aliens from the last two years ...

no, the patriot act needs to be abolished and the 4th amendment restored

Insufficient data

No law can be valid that claims to supersede the supreme law of the land. The Patriot act is a claim to criminal power.

No, it is unconstitutional and violates our civil liberties

Yes, but it should not exceed fourth amendment restrictions on the government and be monitored by voters.

NO! It is treasonous!

The Patriot Act is Invasive. Baby steps for BIG BROTHER.

idk

No Opinion

Not sure what this is...embarrassed to say

NO, The government has too much control as it is.

No. The Patriot Act has been a great waste of money, when it comes to arresting terrorists. Money has been used which could have been used improving the welfare or the green technology. Also you might be arrested and forced an interrogation without trial, not even if you're suspected for the crime. The treatment of suspects has been harsh and unworthy a modern democracy. The whole process has been very arbitrary.

not as an on going law

The unPatriot Act is clearly a violation of the 4th Amendment.

At least let the person accused know what they've been charged

Some parts yes, some parts no

Do away with all gov sevalence, unless there is a proven fact that a certain person or group is a imminant threat to the safety of our country

NO THE FEDS ALREADY ARE IN MY BUSINESS WAY TO MUCH WITHOUT WATCHING MY EVER MOVE

no, it is reminds me of Hitler and Germany... we do not need the government "scaring' us into giving up our freedoms ...

No, the government should stay out of the personal lives of individuals and it is against the Fourth amendment to the Constitution, Search and Seizure.

No, and pass strict laws prohibiting any government surveillance without a warrant based on strong and obvious probable cause, including pictures or video taken from helicopters, planes, drones, and satellite.

NO! I support re-instating ALL of our Constitutional Rights!

not because it is un-partriotic

yes, and I would limit the patiot act to foreign nationals

No, it is absolutely Un Constitutional and a threat to personal liberty.

I support effective security measures commensurate with the current risk from foreign powers and organizations who present a clear threat to American citizens and residents. However, I want government power to be as limited as possible while remaining effective.

The whole reason for our government is to protect the individuals liberty, that means they might have to work very hard to catch a bad guy, and every now and then one will get through but that is the price of freedom.

No, there is no need to arrest people if one man such as the president chooses to do so. This conclusion I came to because we all know that presidents are people and people make mistakes regardless if they admit it or not.

Not sure, I think we are giving up freedoms, but maybe the information gathered is worth.

The method used by CIA under Chaney and Bush was correct, effective, and good government for prevention. Socialism's method is a continuous disaster. Socialism is good only for its own "The end justifys the means" with "opinion without interference

This document was written before 9-11.

The patriot act is unconstitutional and is a socialist idea. It has no place in America.

HELL NO!

Keep the government out of the peoples life. The Federal governments primary purpose is to protect the people, not to grow and get rich off the peoples back.

Yes, but the electorate MUST be honestly advised & the electorate should direct the our government within the laws of the US Constitution

Depends who it's applied against

No, and prosecute those who voted for and enforced it for violating their Oath.

As a temporary measure when we are at war or there is another national emergency.

Government must have real reasons to get into folk's personal lives. We don't have a civil war going on and I don't see Lincoln in the White House (and even I think he went a bit overboard - but civil war is a different matter, especially when slavery is involved [state's rights were really just a smokescreen, as they are for so many issues]).

Unsure of what this is.

Mostly no.

We need to end the Tyranny that we employ known as the United States Government!

NO, and limit the scope of the government's power to encroach upon the privacy of citizens

The government should only do what they NEED to do to protect our citizens, and they must have reasonable cause.

No. It is a violation of the Constitution.

Permit government only to spy on conversations involving foreign nationals, but keep them out of everything else.

When in doubt please refer to the Constitution.

The constitutional rights should be strictly applied to all U.S citizens but it does not apply to non-citizens and therefore surveillance of them is okay if they are suspected terrorists

fuck no

.. tough question- how much is 'too much'.. "1984"..?

..how much is too much 'Big Brother'..?

..how much 'Big Brother' is too much..?

indecisive.

hahaha

Not sure

I believe there are parts of it that work and parts that do not. Those that do not should be over hauled, ie: TSA

PRIVACY!!!!!!!!

Only if the Government surveils criminals or wanted criminals to keep us safe.

Undecided.

No, it's way too overblown. We are paying a terrible price in liberty and money for a police state.

To a point yes , to entrap someone trying to make a living no to catch and capture terrorism YES whats a terrorist thats the guy down the road that builds diesel and fertilizer bombs to kill people doing there every day. Should be limited to such things as murdering people who chose to live. illegal gun sales and so on. Panning to blow up public buildings ect ect . Evasion of taxes NO and simply stupid stuff NO. Serious Communications with sick intensions more power to them

I think in the times we live in, something of this nature is a necessary evil, but it is too broad as is.

Mandatory due process for all provisions of the Patriot Act

Promulgate legislate that would create greater transparency between the CIA, FBI, DEA, and Department of Defense.
