Learn more about Medical Malpractice Cap Increase
In 1975 Governor Jerry Brown signed the California Increase in Cap on Medical Malpractice Lawsuits Initiative which all medical malpractice damages at $250,000. Supporters of the measure argue that since the cap is too low since it is not tied to inflation. $250,000 in 1976 is now worth over $1.1 Million in 2014 dollars. Opponents argue that raising malpractice awards will create more lawsuits and cause healthcare costs to rise for patients and providers. See recent medical malpractice news
