Question 1 will legalize the possession and consumption of marijuana by adults over the age of 21. Adults will be able to purchase up to 2 and ½ ounces of marijuana and up to 6 mature plants at state licensed retail facilities. Marijuana sold under the act would be subject to a 10% sales tax. Proponents of the proposition include the author Rick Steves and NORML. Opponents include Governor Paul LePage and attorney general Janet Mills.
