Amendment 2 will legalize the possession and consumption of medical marijuana by adults over the age of 21 who suffer from chronic or debilitating medical conditions. The conditions are restricted to chronic conditions including AIDS, MS, Parkinson's and Crohn's. To obtain a medical marijuana permit patients will be required to see a state licensed physician. Proponents of the issue include the SEIU, NAACP and the Florida Democratic Party. Opponents of the issue include Purdue Pharma (the manufacturer or OxyContin,) Abbot Laboratories (maker of the opiod Vicodi) and their Super PAC Project SAM (founded by Kevin Sabet, David Frum and Patrick Kennedy).
