Welfare programs in the U.S. are designed to ensure that the basic needs of the American population are met. Federal and state social programs include cash assistance, health insurance, food assistance, housing subsidies, energy and utilities subsidies, and education and childcare assistance. Similar benefits are sometimes provided by the private sector either through policy mandates or on a voluntary basis. In 1996, Congress passed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (Welfare Reform Act). The new law placed permanent ceilings on the amount of federal funding…

welfare just needs to be harder to qualify they should testify the kids and view how they are actually living.
@ISIDEWITH10yrs10Y
Fewer
@9FRPS8J8mos8MO
There is A lot of Fraud with welfare theirs many people like Undocumented mothers using their documented kids to ask our government to give them money and its a lot of money and the money goes to enjoying life instead it should be money to just survive to have shelter bills or food that is only certain brands not high quality foods . high brand food should be hard earned.

More, reform the system so that it supplements, rather than replaces, a working income
@9GVPPRJ 6mos6MO
It is a good idea to save some money to use it for helping other needs in the country. However, some individuals only or main income is from Welfare so it will only worsen the problem.
@ISIDEWITH10yrs10Y
Fewer, current benefits do not provide enough support
@9HJWKMN5mos5MO
This is apparent based on the extent of homelessness. The same people who express the most negative sentiment about the homeless are, ironically, often the same ones who say we need to have more restrictions on welfare. I know people who have "invisible" disabilities(not obvious to a stranger at first glance, but very real nonetheless), and it has been way too hard for them to get assistance. They're living with me, and I can't just let them become homeless. When society doesn't share the burden, it all falls onto a smaller number of kind people to shoulder it.

More, and deny benefits to immigrants
@9F5WMD68mos8MO
Immigration is a very useful way to improve the state of our country, not only well educated immigrants, but uneducated ones as well for a variety of reasons. Having more working age members within a society is always useful, especially since they specifically want to be in the United States. Relating to that, attracting more immigrants is important, providing benefits to immigrants will bring more in, especially educated ones. Furthermore, these are not simply numbers, these are human beings. Helping them through welfare is important, as it is with everyone in our great nation.
@DovesSerenity8mos8MO
While I agree that immigration can bring numerous benefits to our country, we must also consider the economic implications. Welfare programs are primarily funded by taxpayers and distributing these resources to a larger population, including immigrants, could strain the system. For instance, in California, a state with a high immigrant population, the welfare system has been under severe stress due to their inclusive policies. This often leads to less resources for citizens who have contributed to the system for years. How would you propose we balance the needs of our citizens and the desire to assist immigrants without overburdening our welfare system?

Fewer, current means testing is a waste of time and money
Leave it the same for most but ban illegal immigrants and those who don't pay taxes. Also increase benefits for elderly and disabled as thier fixed income isn't much and most elderly get $12-25$ and that is not enough.
@8FLK3FN4yrs4Y
I feel like it should be a lot more personalized and there should be an emphasis on not being able to cheat the system.

More, abolish welfare in favor of UNIVERSAL INCOME.

More, but I would rather abolish welfare
@9665XKT2yrs2Y
Fewer, current means-testing is a waste of time and money
Fewer in some areas and more in others
@9L74FFC2mos2MO
Neither, reform the system to ensure it supplements instead of replaces a working income and direct benefits towards those most in need who are making concerted efforts to get off welfare
Fewer. the income cap on welfare benefits should be raised to the point that a beneficiary of welfare can sustain their living, and the cap should be set at a rate that the recipient can independently afford what the benefits provide.
@9GN5KWP7mos7MO
Fewer. Ensure that benefits go to those most in need and that benefits only supplement instead of replace a working income. Anyone on welfare should be doing all they can to get off it
@9GJTNP97mos7MO
Reform the system so that it supplements a working income, but also make sure the benefits are going to those who need it most.
Deleted9mos9MO
Regardless, we should abolish all welfare programs

Fewer, and turn our current welfare state into a universal, welfare state
@85QWNPG2yrs2Y
Abolish welfare, un-ban high density public housing construction and provide both universal healthcare and a small UBI to all citizens as a dividend of investment on their providing to our prosperity

Fewer restrictions, but deny benefits to "Illegal" Immigrants
@8RZH2HGIndependent3yrs3Y
@9G3DHMG7mos7MO
Fewer, in fact, all welfare assistance programs for people (including those due to illness, natural disasters, and corporate bailouts / welfare) should be abolished. Those who apply for such benefits should receive the death penalty.
@9FRLXGC8mos8MO
More, deny benefits to illegal immigrants, and increase benefits for those who could be eligible for them (Elderly, disabled, etc.)
@8XY43BH2yrs2Y
Get rid of the benefits.
@9D3RPBQ10mos10MO
All welfare benefits should be given to everyone equally regardless.
@9GSJY346mos6MO
Require people to buy better food. People should not be spending a piece of my paycheck on trash *** gas station food. It is inefficient to the consumer and the ones paying for it.
@VulcanMan6 6mos6MO
Please google "food desert"
@9GSGPR36mos6MO
People should be encouraged and expected to provide for themselves as much as they are able to do so. Government does not exist to enable its citizenry in self destructive cycles of laziness but rather to help it rise up above challenges and help it be self reliant. No illegal immigrant should receive any form of welfare as it creates an undue burden on the us taxpayer.
@VulcanMan6 6mos6MO
This is completely against the fundamental purpose of society itself...
@9BC2V6R1yr1Y
More, but increase benefits for the elderly, poor, and disabled
@8FB33W64yrs4Y
More, but increase benefits for the elderly, disabled, and veterans.
@8ZMWPGZ2yrs2Y
More, and end all welfare programs
@8KHSPTP4yrs4Y
If welfare recipients have school aged children, they should be required to actively participate in their child’s education. Parents should have to attend conferences, sign and return school documents, and assist their children with homework. They should also be reading to them or with them every night.
@9BMBSG91yr1Y
Destroy welfare
